Greater safety requirements predicted to drive growth in food allergen testing

A global forecasting report produced by US company MarketsandMarkets sets out predictions that the food allergen testing market size will reach US $760m by 2022. Several factors, including the increasing stringency of international food allergen regulations and rising prevalence of serious food allergies in the population, are cited as key drivers of this 6.8% compound annual growth in market size compared with 2015 baseline levels.

One segment of the report looks at growth rates according to different testing technologies. ELISA immunoassays, one of the most widely used techniques in food allergen testing – is projected to grow at the highest rate by 2022.
