The National Allergy Strategy food service project resources were officially released on Monday 17 July 2017
Everyone working in food service – from the manager through to the food preparation and food service staff – needs to be aware of the risks food allergies pose. It’s also important to be clear on how to identify and manage food allergens and how to respond to enquiries from customers with food allergies.
The All about Allergens online training aims to provide fast, easy and free access to accurate and consistent training for all staff working in food service. This course is designed to assist proprietors and workers in any food business to gain knowledge about food allergens, and to develop best practice procedures for making their food business safe for customers with allergies. The online training and supporting resources can be accessed from the following link: www.foodallergytraining.org.au.
The course has five units each consisting of a short film, information and questions. A certificate is available upon successful completion. The National Allergy Strategy provides resources to assist with how to identify and manage food allergens with downloadable information, allergen menu matrix template and weblinks.
The community education website aims to provide easy access to top level, practical information for people living with food allergy and their carers. The website is available from the following link: www.foodallergyeducation.org.au
The National Allergy Strategy is an initiative of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) and Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA), as the leading medical and patient organisations for allergy in Australia.
