The Product Information Form (PIF) is an industry-agreed questionnaire intended to be used by companies to provide a wide variety of information about food products and ingredients in a single document that meets the information needs for legal and regulatory compliance.
In the period since the PIF was last reviewed, there have been a number of changes in Australian laws and regulations that impact on the content of the PIF. In addition, the Excel platform is no longer capable of delivering the functionality expected by users.
The PIF is being translated to a business-to-business software solution to replace the current Excel spreadsheet.
Introducing PIF V6.0 – this is the first major update of the PIF in over 4 years.
PIF V6.0 has been updated to account for the revised ANZ Food Standards Code, which came into effect on 1 March 2016 and the Country of Origin labelling requirements, which came into effect on 1 July 2016. In addition, PIF V6.0 can be used for finished products as well as ingredients.
PIF V6.0 has been developed to streamline the process of recording and reporting product information, making it easier and faster to use. There will be no longer be a need to retype information from Supplier and Customer PIFs into company systems as the information will be able to be exchanged between companies via PIF portals. Furthermore, information stored in a company’s PIF portal will be searchable, enabling much better use of data than what is possible with the current standalone, Excel PIFs.
Want to learn more about this exciting development in the PIF?
The AFGC is running workshops around Australia and in New Zealand in March and April 2017. Come along and learn about PIF 6.0 and see a demonstration on the online portal – there will be time for questions so that you can fully understand the benefits of PIF 6.0.
