The Allergen Bureau’s web-based calculator for allergen risk assessment – VITAL® Online – has been recognised by both the Australian food industry and the ICT sector as a significant new product development which has achieved successful commercial application.
VITAL Online was last night named as the winner of the Australian Institute for Food Science & Technology (AIFST) 2016 Food Industry Innovation Award.
A collaboration between the Allergen Bureau, Ionata Digital and Food Innovation Australia Ltd (FIAL), VITAL Online is a tool food producers can use to assist in presenting allergen advice consistently for allergic consumers.
The Allergen Bureau’s VITAL (Voluntary Incidental Trace Allergen Labelling) Program is a standardised allergen risk assessment process for food industry. Developed for use within the overall VITAL Program, VITAL Online provides the global food industry with a standarised allergen risk assessment tool through a web-based platform based on the principles from the relevant body of allergen science and able to be adapted to the allergen requirements of different regulatory environments.
It is the science behind the VITAL Program that is the key to the success of VITAL Online. The VITAL Scientific Expert Panel provide the underpinning science around food allergen thresholds that supports VITAL Online.
The VITAL Scientific Expert Panel is a collaboration between the Allergen Bureau, Food Allergy Research & Resource Program (FARRP) of the University of Nebraska & the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) – consisting of international scientists specialising in allergen management, food allergy and risk assessment. We wish to thank the VSEP for their contribution to the success of VITAL Online.
VITAL Online has also been recognised at the 2016 Australian Information Industry Association (aiia) Tasmanian iAwards – winning the President’s Award 2016 for Overall Excellence. The iAwards recognise Australia’s premier Information and Communications Technology achievements.
In addition to the Overall Excellence Award, VITAL Online received three other iAwards
- Infrastructure & Platforms Innovation of the Year
- Research & Development Project of the Year
- Industrial & Primary Industries
As the Tasmanian state winner in these categories, VITAL Online will proceed to compete in the National iAwards to be held in Melbourne in September 2016. https://www.iawards.com.au/annual-program/national-event.
The Allergen Bureau, Ionata Digital and FIAL would like to thank both AIFST and aiia for their acknowledgement of VITAL Online.
The Allergen Bureau wishes to particularly emphasise the contribution of our member companies – as without our member company support the Allergen Bureau would not be able to develop innovative industry tools such as VITAL Online.
