Recent reports indicate the global food allergen testing market was valued at USD 518 million in 2016 and new projections claim it is expected to reach USD 921 million by 2025, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.1% from 2017 to 2025.
In late 2017, 3M announced that it had acquired Elution Technologies, a Vermont, USA-based manufacturer of allergen test kits. 3M have now completed the integration of the business, with the allergen testing product range now available through 3M’s worldwide sales and distribution network as 3M Allergen Protein Rapid Kits and 3M Allergen Protein ELISA Kits. All AOAC Research Institute Performance Tested certificates have also been transferred to 3M.
In reports relating to the acquisition, 3M spokesperson Eric Amann referred to food allergen testing as one of the fastest growing segments of the food diagnostic industry, noting “We’re excited to offer the industry one of the broadest portfolios of allergen solutions and make them available through our worldwide sales and technical service network.”
