The Allergen Bureau, Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST) and the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology (NZIFST) collaborate to offer these annual awards for best practice food allergen management in each of Australia and New Zealand.
In accordance with the Allergen Bureau Mission, the Selection Committees of both the Australian and New Zealand Awards will decide each award recipient based on their contribution to a consistent, science-based approach to food allergen risk assessment, management and communication that: assists allergen sensitive consumers to make informed choices based on label information; and guides/promotes industry best practice.
The Allergen Bureau encourages self-nomination from any person or organisation making a significant contribution to best practice food allergen management in Australia or New Zealand, respectively. The award recipients will gain ANZ and international recognition for their excellence in food allergen management.
AIFST Allergen Bureau ‘Julie Newlands Award’ for best practice food allergen management in Australia
The award is named in honour of Julie Newlands, inaugural Director and the first Honorary Treasurer of the Allergen Bureau Ltd. Sadly, Julie passed away in November 2017.
The award will be ‘presented’ at the 2020 AIFST Convention Virtual Conference, July 2020. The award winner will receive a complimentary registration to attend the NZIFST Conference 2021, including a return economy airfare to New Zealand and three nights’ accommodation.
