This May, the Allergen Bureau proudly supports Food Allergy Week, an initiative led by Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA) to raise awareness and promote safety for the more than 1.5 million Australians living with a food allergy. Held annually in the last week of May, this year’s theme, travelling with a Food Allergy, focuses on empowering individuals and families to explore the world with greater confidence and peace of mind.
Travel—whether local or international—can be daunting for those managing food allergies. From unfamiliar menus to inconsistent labelling, the risks are real. That’s why the Allergen Bureau remains committed to supporting transparent, trusted allergen management across the global food supply chain. Our VITAL Program and Food Industry Guides help food businesses provide accurate, consistent information – reinforcing the philosophy to avoid, eliminate and ensure allergens are managed to the lowest possible level, aiming to give consumers confidence in their food.
As hospital admissions for anaphylaxis continue to rise in Australia, awareness and education are more critical than ever. Food Allergy Week is a chance for all of us to get involved—through school events, workplace fundraisers, or simply sharing real-world tips and travel stories that help others feel seen and supported.
Together, we can create a world where no one misses out on life’s adventures because of food allergy.
