A recent study evaluated the effectiveness of video-based allergy training for catering personnel in restaurants, schools, and hospitals.
The study involved 619 participants who completed pre-test surveys to assess their demographic data, attitudes, and knowledge levels regarding food allergies. Following a 32-minute video training, participants completed post-test questionnaires. Results indicated that while some knowledge and attitude items improved, the overall level of improvement was lower than expected.
Notably, almost 46 per cent of participants had previous food safety certification, and more than 40 per cent had prior food allergy training. Despite this, the levels of knowledge and attitudes of all participants was found to be lacking.
The study underscores the importance of comprehensive training programs that not only provide accurate information but also address and correct misconceptions. Food service businesses must invest in effective allergy training to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers with food allergies.
