The Allergen Bureau extends its sincere condolences to the Allen family. Dr Katie Allen was a foundational member of the Allergen Bureau’s VITAL Scientific Expert Panel (VSEP) from 2011–2019. Working alongside international experts in the field of food allergy, her clinical knowledge and leadership were invaluable in establishing the science that underpins precautionary allergen labelling (PAL) today.
Later in her political career, Katie continued to advocate for greater standardisation in the food industry through clearer labelling and application of risk-based PAL statements.
We are deeply grateful for the support Katie provided to the Allergen Bureau and for the lasting, positive impact she has left on the food industry and the many families it serves.
