Woolworths becomes Coeliac Australia’s Official Supermarket Partner

Woolworths has announced it will become the Coeliac Australia Official Supermarket Partner and make grocery shopping cheaper for those living with coeliac disease.

Woolworths shoppers who are also members of Coeliac Australia will be issued a card that applies a 5 per cent discount to their gluten free groceries in-store or online. This follows several years during which Coles partnered with Coeliac Australia to offer discounted gluten-free food to members.

In a media release announcing their partnership with Woolworths, Coeliac Australia say this new alliance will help them continue to raise awareness while representing the interests of the coeliac disease and gluten free community in Australia.

The announcement came on the eve of Coeliac Awareness Week 2020 , held from 13th-20th March. The theme for the week this year is ‘It’s time to get serious about Coeliac Disease’. By raising awareness during this annual campaign, Coeliac Australia are aiming to “find the 280,000 Australians unaware they’re living with coeliac disease.” This responds to statistics that suggest 1 in 70 people in Australia have coeliac disease, yet 80 per cent of affected people are currently unaware they have it.

The organisation has developed an online self-assessment tool to help improve Australia’s low diagnosis rate and encourage more people to seek a diagnosis and achieve better health.
