The Allergen Bureau is seeking nominations for Elected Directors aligned with a culture rooted in scientific rigor and a steadfast commitment to:

Core Duties Include:
- Strategy development: Participate in development of the Allergen Bureau’s strategic plan ensuring that the plan aligns with long term objectives and member interests;
- Strategy implementation: Approve; and then oversee implementation of the Allergen Bureau strategy;
- Governance: Establish, and monitor, good organisational governance procedures;
- Statutory compliance: Monitor compliance activities to ensure statutory requirements are met;
- Financial stewardship: Ensure prudent fiscal responsibility is exercised;
- Risk management: Ensure the organisation has an appropriate risk profile, balanced risk-reward strategies and is capable of navigating uncertainties;
- Culture: Ensure the culture and leadership of the organisation is appropriate, and key relationships with members and the various communities within the food allergen management ecosystem are nurtured.
- Staff: Oversee appointment of key staff as required.
Time Commitment:
Minimum time commitments associated with Directorship are approximately 50 to 60 hours per year, including meetings and out of session communication. Participation in fortnightly operational online meetings is welcomed.
Allergen Bureau Directors provide voluntary, unpaid services to the Allergen Bureau and we gratefully acknowledge the generous support they receive from their employer companies in this capacity.
Who is eligible to nominate?
As per our Constitution, every candidate for election as a Director of the Allergen Bureau must:
(i) be an officer or employee of a Full Member at the time of the candidate’s nomination and at the time of the election of Directors;
(ii) be supported in writing by the Full Member referred to in clause 43.3(f)(i);
(iii) be supported in writing by at least one other Full Member;
(iv) give the Allergen Bureau their signed consent to act as a Director of the Allergen Bureau; and
(v) be eligible to be a Director under the Australian Corporations Act or ACNC Act.
Core Skills and experience
Demonstrated skills and experience in the following:
- Knowledge of the food, beverage, agriculture or manufacturing industries;
- Ability to work flexibly whilst promoting team collaboration;
- Multi-stakeholder engagement / advocacy;
- Good governance practices;
- Understanding of key financial indicators as they relate to a Not-for-Profit entity; and
- Board Director experience is desired.
In addition to the above, this year the Allergen Bureau Board is seeking candidates with additional expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- IT security and management systems;
- Finance /accounting;
- Law; and/or;
- PR, communications, sales and marketing.
