Since the launch of VITAL 4.0 the Allergen Bureau has been working on updating the VITAL Best Practice Labelling Guide (VBPLG) examples to reflect the ED05 Reference Doses. The guide now also includes examples for particulate calculations and updated guidance on the labelling of cross contact cereals, where the advice has changed, from labelling cereals individually in the Precautionary Allergen Label to labelling gluten. This change is in response to challenges of differentiating the cereals in verification testing and acknowledging that gluten is the key labelling outcome as the priority allergen listed in the Australian New Zealand Food Standards Code.
The change is also reflected in the Food Industry Guide to Allergen Management and Labelling (FIGAML), which we are excited to announce now includes new guidance for organisations considering VEGAN claims. Finally, the Unexpected Allergens in Food document has also been updated to include dark chocolate as another example. All resources are available on the Allergen Bureau resources page.
