Recalls for allergens continue to trend strongly in FSANZ recall statistics. They are visible to both food manufacturers and consumers. But where is the recognition for the good work that the industry does every day to prevent recalls in hundreds of thousands of products?
At the Allergen Bureau, we see new targeted products emerging where they weren’t available before, strong adoption of the VITAL Program, businesses training employees in allergen management and risk assessment, and ongoing enquiries from industry professionals working to provide accurate information to consumers with food allergy so they can make informed choices.
So don’t be shy—take a moment to acknowledge your efforts and nominate for the Julie Newlands Award. In honour of Julie Newlands, an inaugural Director and the first Honorary Treasurer of the Allergen Bureau Ltd—as well as a passionate food allergen advocate—this award promotes and raises awareness of best-practice food allergen management.
The award is open to all food ingredient suppliers, food manufacturers, and food establishments, big or small, who are committed to ensuring their food products can be trusted by allergen-sensitive consumers.
The journey to best practice is continuous and ever-evolving. Whether you’re just starting your allergen management journey or have a well-established approach, we encourage you to apply.
