Round table reflection –  Gluten and wheat Reference Dose update

On 13 July 2026, the Allergen Bureau brought together industry, dietitians and technical experts at the NSW Food Authority in Newington for a face-to-face round table on the recent CCFL ratification of the 4mg gluten and 5mg wheat reference doses.

The day was a great example of collaboration in action, bringing science, industry and clinical practice into the same room to work through what these changes mean in practice. Discussion ranged from how the new reference doses translate into labelling and cross-contact decisions for manufacturers, through to the advice dietitians give parents, carers and consumers day to day, including the ongoing questions around oats and avenin.

What stood out most was the shared commitment in the room, everyone working toward the same goal of clearer, more consistent guidance and greater confidence for consumers managing food allergies and coeliac disease.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the day. We created a work plan, and we’ll share further updates as this work progresses.  Big thank you to NSW Food Authority for hosting this event.
