Allergen Bureau Hosts 10th AGM in Sydney

In celebration of our 10th AGM, it was so great to host our first face to face AGM since the pandemic, October 27 at the VIBE hotel North Sydney. The meeting was also available virtually.

After the official welcome to country by Director Paul Kelly, Allergen Bureau’s President Jasmine Lacis-Lee updated members on our five key strategies including; evidence based science, best practice allergen management guidance and resources, key stakeholder acknowledgment, global influence and brand recognition and good governance and financial sustainability.

Immediately following the conclusion of the 10th AGM, the Allergen Bureau members heard from a great line up of speakers including:

  • David Lowry – Lowry Food Consulting /Chairperson EHEDG NZ Regional sector opened withThe Smoking Gun of Allergen Risk Management” outlining the importance of hygienic design in allergen management and the role of risk assessment when making changes at site.
  • Maria Said – Allergy and Anaphylaxis Australia, NACE & NAS discussed the latest National Allergy Council and National Allergy Centre of Excellence news including amazing work on key programs such as NIP allergies in the Bub, Allergy 250k, Food Allergy Aware and the Shared Care Model Project.
  • Simon Brooke Taylor – VSEP Member discussed the key findings of the FAO/WHO Expert Panel including the Codex allergen list, threshold doses, precautionary labelling, and allergen declaration as well as future focus for discussion at the upcoming meeting in Rome later this year.

The meeting concluded with an in-depth discussion on the transition from ED01 to ED05 and the potential impacts of the change for industry, regulatory, consumers and trainers. This will no doubt be a hot topic for future discussion and consultation.

A sincere thank you to all our directors, speakers and members who attended in person or joined us online. More images will be shared on our social media and next e-news in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
